derQuaker Interview: Level Up TV

November 24th, 2011 | Autor: erzwo | Kategorien: Interviews, Quake Live

Hello! I’m moppz from the German Quake Live coverage portal www.derQuaker.com . We know each other from some legendary streaming events. Can you both introduce yourself?

nVc

“I’m Ziggy or nVc, I’m a 23 year old Englishman (don’t let my Polish surname fool you) and I’m one of the founders along with Stuart here at Level Up TV.”

Disrepute

“hi moppz, I’m Stuart (Disrepute). I am the good looking one in Level Up TV. I live in London and I just looovvee Quake TDM, so that is what I will be casting at DreamHack Winter 2011. I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners.”

How do split your work at Level Up? Nvc ist the guy with knowledge and disrepute is the guy that gets all the girls?

nVc

“That’s a suprisingly difficult question for all the wrong reasons. We are only as active as the game we cover, and unfortunately Quake Live hasn’t been (and isn’t) in the greatest shape.”

Disrepute

“It is split pretty equally. I do all the online streams and nvc does a perfectly equal amount of nothing. So it is a pretty good balance.”

“Sometimes nvc does a little more nothing than I do something and he rightly tells me off for this. Trance then comes in and calms the kids down, and we live happily ever after.”

“Then I get all the girls xxxxxxxxx”

I understand. So it is the perfect mixture for a good entertainment?

nVc

“I guess that’s a good way to put it!”

Disrepute

“If it is entertaining it has failed, we only do it to boost our own egos. I personally look down on every viewer of our streams as though they are the scum of the earth! Please donate to our DreamHack fund :D”

How long have you guys been involved in the QL streaming business?

Disrepute

“nvc can answer this one”

nVc

“Well I’m as much of a player as I am commentator, and the reason I started streaming and commentating quake was because at the time… I was playing quake. I guess what I’m trying to say is, not only would it mean we could steal strats effectively, but it also gave us something to do after our practice matches.”

“We were then asked to cover Dreamhack, and since then it’s really the community that has kept us going… even the trolls.”

The trolls are also part of the community. What was the best event that you have streamed?

nVc

“It’s hard to choose between MLG, Dreamhack Summer 2011 TDM final, and the ESL ENC TDM Semi-Final (where toxjq first made his return vs. France).”

“But that’s me personally, from Level Up TV’s perspective (and probably our viewers) i think our best was still Dreamhack Winter 2010 with the vo0gd show.”

Disrepute

“For me Of course DreamHack Summer 2011. Apart from that I always love the nations events online for TDM.”

Are you going to be at Dreamhack to provide coverage?

nVc

“Dis you can answer this one”

Disrepute

“We will both be at DreamHack again alongside Trance. Also joined by Qun and Sharpe doing all the extra work behind the scenes to improve the coverage.”

“We are very thankful that DreamHack really is a community focused organisation and understands the grass routes of Quake, and we feel very lucky to be invited to provide the coverage of the tournaments.”

“I will be casting most of the TDM and nvc will be joining me as well as casting the 1v1. We will aim to get as many pro players on as possible and even 2gd if he has the time! Also nvc will use his charms to get some hot girls on stream. That is a promise!”

nVc

“oh oh let me add!”

“Yea and i think it’s also important to mention that whilst we’re primarily there to commentate, with Trance busy working for Dreamhack like the summer event, we’ll also be running the entire production on Trance’s super pc setup too.”

Imagine you have to decide between a hot girl and 2gd. Which one would you choose?

nVc

“We’ll go to the IRC chat to see which one is spammed the most!”

Disrepute

“^^”

We are part of the German community and therefore are very much interested in your opinion about the German players that will be attending Dreamhack. Especially about our rising star twister. Also what do you think, does k1llsen have a chance to win the title? Which is your favorite of all players?

Disrepute

“nvc will answer these it mostly relates to duel”

nVc

“I think twister has potential sure, most ET players do, but he is still many tournaments (lan experience) away from becoming a top 16 player in duel. He has a difficult group and i would be suprised if he can win 1 game there, but it’s this experience he needs to develop… and we need more QL “open” LAN tournaments.”

“Killsen however can beat anyone on a good day, but watching his recent match vs Strenx in zotac, i’m not sure if that day will happen at Dreamhack… we will see. I love his ridiculous flick rails and i know he will always provide a great match to commentate.”

overall, i think cypher will take the title, but i guess we’ll see

“I think we have potential to see your german player “k1llsen” in 1/4 finals, but he needs to start hitting his normal shots for game 1, since i think everything is played in 1 day.”

And what about rapha? Can someone beat him on LAN? I think he is in a very good shape

nVc

“It’s hard to be sure without seeing first the playoff tree, but i am still expecting a rapha vs cypher final, and i think it will be 50/50 (as always) for who will win.”

And in the TDM tourney? What team is the best team in your eyes?

nVc

“those damn warping nudgers… but this is one for Stuart”

Disrepute

“Cu on lan warping nudgers (colwn): stermy, toxic, linkin, winz. They won DreamHack Summer and they are the clear favourites for this event. Outside those I look forward to seeing how the superstar dueller mix team of AIRKISS: Cooller, strenx, av3k, cypher play. I also think Kittylovers: draven, dem0n, krysa, Spart1e have a very strong chance.”

“Outside those top seed I think we could see some impressive displays from nEuCtion: dibbe, bl4jnd, snapcase, gizmo and I think many viewers will want to see what kind of performances we will see from Free For All: wision, kaide, tony, kos00.”

“I am excited!”

nVc

“LOL TONYYYYYYYYY, that guy is better than many people give him credit for.. especially with a quad!”

I streamed some tony games and I was very impressed. What do you think about the tony hype? Was it a little boost for Quakelive?

Disrepute

“Quake needs characters and personalities to draw people in. We need amusing stories behind teams and players and strong rivalries.”

nVc

“+1″

Agreed. But not only do we need a story around the gamers we also need guys like you who bring the story to the people! Your new website could do the trick – tell us something about the new leveluptv 2.0.

Disrepute

“Well the website is something we have been meaning to develop further since Level Up TV was founded, thats 2 years!”

“We started on countless different designs throughout that time, until just one day we sat down and said enough is enough (Trance mostly) lets just get a new one out even if its not perfect and just develop it further over time.”

“For us it is important in conveying our broadcasting brand to the tournament organisers and potential sponsors. We won’t pretend that part of it is about trying to raise some money that we can reinvest back into Level Up TV and improve the coverage, through donations and none intrusive advertising.”

“The new site will home our VODs and live streams and also our blog. This won’t be a rival to ESReality or similar community sites, because it will be focused on news about Level Up TV and articles from our team. It should be worth a read though and I would hope we can give an example of its assistance to our coverage this week at DreamHack.”

“Plus once we get some photos up, we are hoping nvc gets picked up by a modelling agency and we can finally go to all those cool fashion shows! Every guys dream right??”

That sounds like we going to see entertaining Dreamhack coverage. You guys flaming each usually creates some funny moments. Do you think it’s better to just entertain people or focus on a more in-depth analysis of the games?

nVc

“I think it’s just a British thing really, that’s why i like to remember i’m part Polish too. A live broadcast does need both a humorous and serious side for it to be worth watching, a little too much of one without the other can be seriously boring, or seriously annoying.”

“But there is a point where such theory goes too far, i see other streamers/commentators getting involved with players via text chat on a gameserver for everyone to see… that’s too much… we need to stay professional too for the 3rd parties that may be watching in!”

Disrepute

“Honestly we don’t plan to flame each other, and it is the same off air as on. I think we have always done it on our streams and we know from 2GD that you can get away with quite a lot!

“I think it is all about just being yourself on stream. Sometimes of course you try to be a little more professional in some areas, but mostly people like to listen and watch people with a bit of personality because it is much more entertaining.”

“I don’t think we are close to as entertaining as 2GD or wheat or any of the other legendary Quake casters, but if people like who we are and what we produce then we are happy.”

“Quick Fact: Although vor has probably been on more streams than anybody but me, few people know that vor is actually a woman!”

nVc

“and vor also uses a foot pedal to switch to railgun”

Interesting :) So which one of you is better quake live player?

nVc

“i am all aim no brain, disrepute is a good mix.”

Disrepute

“Me 100%”

nVc

“but in all seriousness, i dont play quakelive atall anymore (only watch/commentate occasionally), and when i do play it’s Q3 CPM… until i quit it was definitely me.”

Thanks for the interview guys. We all looking forward to your Dreamhack coverage. According to ESR other streamers (such as me or Cyberfight) will also be allowed to stream the games and cast them in their respective language. Do you know more about it?

Disrepute

“We don’t have any real idea, but all other languages are free to stream, you just have to contact Trance. Usually we have at least a German stream and a Russia stream.”

Thanks. Any shoutouts? Is there someone you want to give thanks to?

nVc

“Just thanks to the Quake community for the support, keep up the great work over there in Germany, AND, everyone should start using reddit.com/r/quakelive!”

Disrepute

“Please follow our twitter @leveluptv and our facebook page /leveluptv and visit our new website www.levelupyourgame.net

“If we want more events in quake we need big viewing figures and lots of attention, so lets all hype the event as much as we can.”

“Thanks fort he interview moppz”
